Principal’s Message

December 22, 2021

Dear Mattos Community,

I want to wish everyone a wonderful Holiday Season and Winter Break. Please be careful with gatherings and travel to keep yourselves and your loved ones safe and healthy. If you are traveling remember to follow COVID guidelines to keep others healthy as well. If you are required to quarantine please reach out to Cathy Ytuarte our attendance clerk who can be reached at or at 510-793-1359 followed by pressing #7. Cathy can assist you with a quarantine packet for students while they are waiting to return to school. Please do not leave messages for Jennifer Ochoa Rodriguez, the secretary, as she has left Mattos for a new position and your communication will not be received by the school. It is important that you also not simply tell the teacher or contact me as it delays our attendance being properly reported, assistance being given directly, and creates extra work that could be better used to serve everyone.

The Winter Break is from Thursday, December 23, 2021- Friday, January 7, 2022 with students returning to school on Monday, January 10, 2022. On this first day back we have our monthly English Language Acquisition Committee or ELAC Meeting in the morning at 8 am and our School Site Council or SSC Meeting in the afternoon at 3 pm. Please see the attached Announcement and Agenda notice for more information.

While students are on break I encourage everyone to support them with staying active physically and mentally. Get students to play outdoors when possible, read and write daily, discuss their day with students, and do creative projects. If you need a creative outlet for your child, have them participate in the FUSD Young Author’s Contest. The guidelines are on the district website and were also distributed to teachers to share with interested students. We have many talented students who are excellent writers and artists so I encourage parents to have their students participate in this optional opportunity. The deadline is Tuesday, January 11, 2022. Students can turn their submissions in to their teacher. Submissions cannot be accepted after 1-11-2022 as time is needed to allow judges to read submissions and submit winners from each grade level  to the district.

Please take care of yourselves and each other. Celebrate your personal  traditions with joy and as safely as possible. I appreciate you all and wish you the best.
