Principal's Message Week # 16
Posted 12/16/20

December 16, 2020

Dear Mattos Community, I hope everyone is ready for a wonderful winter break. Our team at Mattos wants to wish you a happy holiday season that includes rest, relaxation and family time.

As we head off for the winter break which begins Friday afternoon December 18th and extends until we return on Monday January 4, 2021 I’d like to encourage everyone to get our kiddos unplugged over the break as much as possible. If you are having screen time perhaps consider having a fun family movie night with a hot chocolate bar. If you are sheltering in place and want a warm crackling fire put the You Tube fireplace loop on and sing holiday songs together. (Consider these Art and Music)

If you want a fun way to practice scholarly skills like following directions, utilizing measurement and being creative consider making holiday cookies. When children cook they are using several skills to successfully complete a task. In addition, you also get to eat the cookies which is a bonus! (This is Science, Art and Nutrition)

Our break is the perfect time for young architects and engineers to build gingerbread houses, buildings and towns. Are your kids lonely? Have them do a virtual gingerbread house contest with friends and/or family. Another fun activity especially if you have a child who is a fashionista is to have a family or neighborhood Ugly Christmas Sweater Contest. (These count as Math, Art, and Social Studies and be safely done on Zoom) I know by now you are probably wondering what to do for PE. A really fun hands on physical activity that I’d suggest is having a friendly family snowball fight with rolled up white socks. All the excitement with none of the cold of actual snow.

Whatever you do during the break please know that as we head toward 2021 your team at Mattos is thinking of you and your families. Have a wonderful break. Have a happy holiday and a fantastic New Year.

We’ll see you in 2021!
